Jane Buckley, 96, passed away on April 23, 2015. A lifelong Superior resident, she lived for 90 years in the home where she was born.
She graduated in 1935, with highest honors from Central High School and attended Superior State Teachers College (UWS.) She worked at the Princess Theatre, where she met Randall Buckley, the man who would become her husband of 69 years. They married in 1941, and she joined him on the West Coast where he was stationed. Some of her happiest memories were living in Cannon Beach, Ore. and beach combing or playing cards with other Coast Guard wives. When they returned to Superior they brought back Husky, a K-9 Coast Guard dog. She became a homemaker, a wonderful mother, a volunteer with the PTA, a pillar in her church, and active in politics. She was an accomplished cook, pianist and bridge player. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and enjoyed travel. She was a member of PEO for over four decades. At an age when many retire, Jane began working with the Douglas County Health Department where she worked for 20 years. Known as "Mother Jane" she shared her wisdom, quick wit and grammar corrections with younger co-workers.
Her greatest pleasure was her beloved granddaughter Emma Jane, who was her pride and joy.
A special thank you to the entire staff at Villa Marina for the love and care they gave to Jane.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mable (Sample) Hoppmann, husband Randall, sister Eileen Drinkwine and brother Doug McDonald.
She is survived by son Paul (Vikki) granddaughter Emma, daughter Linda (Sanford) Dee of Denver, nieces Carol Kittelson and Evvie Rieger, and many other relatives and friends.
