Mrs. Jane Ann Royal (née Skoog) of Superior, Wisconsin, born April 29, 1921 in McCloud, California, to the late Helen M. Skoog (née Michie) and the late George O. Skoog. Jane passes away at age 98 at her home in Lombard, Illinois. A private burial service was held in Superior, Wisconsin.
Jane grew up in Superior and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Superior in 1943. During World War II, she undertook some further studies in engineering and worked on radio technology in bomber aircraft at Dayton airfield in Ohio. In 1945, Jane married Dr Joseph Royal, physical chemist, of Winnipeg, Manitoba. They lived in Chicago and suburbs for the rest of their lives. After the war, Jane worked for many years in the bookstore and rental library she and Joe owned on Chicago's Northside.
Jane finished a Masters Degree in Psychology at Loyola University in 1969 and worked as a dedicated teacher of children with learning disabilities in the Chicago Public Schools until her retirement in 1993. Jane was an avid reader
and was memorably passionate about people, politics and current events. She was outspoken, feisty, independent and fiercely intelligent. She was immensely fond of her friends and all their families. Jane was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Dr Joseph Royal and by her sister, Helen D. Holton of Superior, Wisconsin. Jane is survived by her daughter, Deborah Royal Dwyer, her son-in-law, Dr Terence Michael Dwyer and six grandsons in Australia.
