Janice "Jan" M. McConnell, 66, lifelong resident of Superior, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
Jan was born on August 25, 1953 in Superior the daughter of Wallace and June Grenier. She graduated from Superior Senior High School with the class of 1972.
She had worked in Superior as a waitress for 47 years. She worked at The Kitchen for 39 years and Tower Café prior to that. She was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Church, Superior Moose Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post #435 and was a past member of the Elks.
Jan was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed playing cards, gambling, and bowling. Most important to her was spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and siblings, Willie Grenier, Joann Sackett, Barbara Ellison, and Jim Grenier.
Jan is survived by her two daughters, Jenni (Jay) Brantley of Sawyer, MN and Jaclyn (Jeff) Skille of Lake Nebagamon; grandchildren, Brandon McConnell, Logan and Noelle Skille, Rylee, Ashley, Emily, and Tanner Brantley; siblings, Carol (Rodney) Lee of Danbury, Sue (Bill) Britton of Foxboro, Pat (Jarred) Kenville of Superior, Mike Grenier of Foxboro, Richard "Sput" (Denise) Grenier of Foxboro; and many nieces, nephews, special friends and customers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th St. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of Christ the King Church. Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci will officiate. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be, Jay Brantley, Jeff Skille, Brandon McConnell, Tanner Brantley, Mike Grenier, Sput Grenier, Bill Britton, and John Samuelson. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit for their wonderful care.
