Janis M. Kolstad, 83, of Superior, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 13, 1933, in Superior, daughter of William and Gunda (Solie) Kolstad.

Janis was a loving mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a friend to many and a woman of God. She had the gift of being a great listener to anyone in need of comfort, never judgemental, always offering support and kindness.

Some of her joys in life were sharing time with her family. She enjoyed staying up late with a strong cup of coffee, reading, watching Downton Abbey, and all of her family pets.

She had various jobs throughout her life, with being a mother the most important. Her most enjoyable job was working with her dear friends, Edith and Alan at Pederson's Landscaping and Garden Center.

She will be sadly missed by all of her dear friends and all of the people and lives she has touched and made a difference in.

Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Gunda; and sisters, Mae Riedasch and Lois Burt.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim (Alan) Olson; sons, Robert (Laura) Janicki and Thomas (Nancy) Janicki, all of Superior; 7 grandchildren, Alissa, Kyle, Robert Jr., Bradley, Meghan, Benjamin and Matthew; 2 great-grandchildren, Nola and Willem; and numerous dear friends.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th Street, with John Maynard officiating.
