Jay W. Austreng, 98, of Superior, died Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Twin Ports Health Services, Superior.
He was born September 6, 1926, in Superior, son of Oswald and Lillian (Bloom) Austreng.
Jay was a 1944 graduate of Superior Central High School.
Following high school Jay enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
On June 23, 1956, Jay Wayne Austreng and Rita Marie Morgan, the love of his life, were united in marriage at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Superior.
Jay worked as an accountant for Lakehead Constructors and as a certified public accountant for Cooperative Services. The Cooperative Services job involved considerable travel.
He enjoyed outdoor activities of all kinds including ice fishing, snowmobiling, and boating with fishing and camping. He also looked forward to the cousins' trips to Hinckley with lunch at the casino and reunions with his Navy buddies in various states. His greatest interest was spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Rita in 2007; and brothers, George (Ellie) Austreng and Jon Austreng.
Survivors include his daughter, Gina (Dan) Bartlett, Iron River, WI; son, Morgan (Teresa) Austreng, Foxboro, WI; grandchildren, Darren (Cristie), Joshua, Wyatt (Abigail), Clayton, Kaitlyn (Matthew) Bixler, Gretchen and Scarlett; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Mary Morgan.
The pallbearers will be Morgan, Dan, Darren, Joshua, Wyatt and Clayton.
A private funeral service will be held at the Downs Life Celebration Center with Reverend Father Andrew Ricci officiating.
The burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Superior, with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435.
