Obituary

Jay M. Faugerstrom, 70, of Lakeside Township, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after an accident on his property.

Jay was born in Superior on January 7, 1956, the son of John Morris and Lillian (Anderson) Faugerstrom. He graduated from Northwestern High School with the Class of 1974.

Jay had worked for Lakehead Construction and retired after 30 years of service from Graymont Superior, the former Cutler Magner Lime Plant. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local 460L and the Carpenters Union 361.

On August 27,1983, Jay married the love of his life Donna Schmidt-Plachta. Through their marriage, Jay instantly became a father to Donna's three daughters, Kimberly, Rebecca, and Angela, whom he loved and embraced as his own. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, faith and devotion, recently celebrating 43 wonderful years of marriage.

Jay had a lifelong passion for sports, especially basketball, baseball, softball, and football, and took great pride in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was always a proud and enthusiastic supporter. An avid hunter who enjoyed the social side of the sport, he also spent time snowmobiling and four-wheeling.

He found joy in working on his land, whether gardening, mowing, or driving his tractor. A hardworking and talented woodworker and carpenter, Jay built his family’s home. He was never one to sit still and was always ready to lend a hand, expecting nothing in return. Jay made friends wherever he went and had a gift for gab. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Above all, Jay was devoted to caring for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Paul Adolphson; and his dogs.

Jay is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Kimberly (Dale) Raffauf, Rebecca (Tony)Olinger, and Angela Plachta; son-in-law, Jamie Hall; grandchildren, Tad (Eleanor), James, and Mason Raffauf, Alexandra Rampier, and Aiden Hall; great-grandchildren, Veda, Stevie, and Emmaline; his only brother, Lee (Cindy) Faugerstrom; his sisters, Patti Adolphson and Donna Swartz; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; and his beloved dog, Toby.

His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

A Celebration of Jay’s Life will be announced and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jay’s name may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, 3176 Middle River Rd., South Range, WI 54874.
