March 5, 1950 – April 10, 2018
Jay Viggiano, 68, lifelong resident of Superior, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in Duluth, MN.
Jay was born on March 5, 1950, to James and Muriel Viggiano. He graduated SSHS in 1968 and went to UWS. Jay owned and operated Jokers Wild, a local bar for many years. After marrying Sue, he worked for the Duluth News Tribune, and most recently for Essentia Health in Environmental Services for the past 15 years.
Jay was a great family man and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He spent many years coaching his son's basketball, football, and baseball teams. Jay loved to play bingo (especially when he won), enjoyed eating good food, and truly loved spending quality time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Muriel Viggiano.
Jay is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sue (Nevers); son, Vince (Sara) Viggiano; step-daughters, Denise (Jim) Grills and Jamie Grills; grandsons, Arlo and Brooks Viggiano; brothers, Glenn (Susie) Viggiano and Louis (Linda) Viggiano; sisters, Kim (Pete) Susens and Rita (Don) Matheson; and many nieces and nephews.
Jay's visitation will be on Friday, April 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a memorial service on Saturday, April 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th Street. Rev. Michelle Rowell of Concordia Lutheran Church will officiate. A reception to follow in the gathering room on the ground floor of the old Nelson Dewey School in Superior, WI. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jay's life.
