Jean M. Cole, 79, of Superior, Wisconsin died on March 18, 2013 at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospice in Duluth with her loving family by her side.
Jean was born April 6, 1933 to William and Jeanette Carlson in Superior, Wis. She married Linus Cole on January 28, 1974 in Watertown, S. D.
Jean was a life member and a Past-President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1091. She was also a long standing member and a past College of Regents for the Women of the Moose, Chapter 795. She was very proud and enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at different activities for both organizations. She was an avid bingo player who rarely missed Monday night bingo at the Moose Lodge. She also cherished her Friday night Texas Hold'em card games with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Linus Cole; sister, Patricia Strong; and brother, Louis Carlson.
Jean will be deeply missed by her daughters, Linda (Greg) Hartel of Hermantown, Minn. and Cathy Anderson and Tanya (Chad) Martineau of Superior; sons, Daniel Anderson of Superior and Ronald Anderson; stepsons, Charles (Kathy) Cole and Michael (Peggy) Cole all of Stacy, Minn. and Robin Cole of St. Paul, Minn.; brother, Tommy (Betty Guzzo) Carlson of Duluth; sister-in-law, Patricia Carlson of Superior; grandchildren, Michael Anderson (Deana Ruzicka), Nicole (Jon) Noll, Jessica (Craig) Burfield, Lauren Hartel, Joshua Cole, Caitlynn and Paige Martineau, Anna (Mike) Kost, Jamie (Hannah) Cole, Barbie and Wendy Cole, Patrick (Melissa) Cole and Brian (Lynn) Cole; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her best friends, Joyce Ronchak and Judy Piper. And a final "toodle-oo" to all of Jean's family and friends.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Essentia Health Coronary ICU and also a special thank you to Dr. Erik Wendland for always treating Jean with kindness and respect. Her daughters would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated Hospice staff for the excellent care, compassion and support given to Jean and her family.
A time of visitation will be held in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St. on Sat., March 23rd beginning at 11:30 a.m. until the 12:30 p.m. memorial service conducted by the Women of the Moose. This will be followed by a memorial service with Rev. Ron Becklund officiating. There will be a pot luck luncheon at the Moose Lodge following the service. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
