Obituary

Jean E. Schroeder

"Momma Jean"

Born: 3-14-1926

Died: 1-06-2020

Our beloved mother passed into eternal glory with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, January 6, 2020 in the comfort of her home.  Her daughter, Marilyn, loving cared for her for over 8½ years.  She was born March 14, 1926 to Henry and Laura Salveson.

Marilyn lovingly nicknamed her "Little Pony" as she was a small lady; mom named Marilyn "Big Pony" as she could literally use mom as a crutch under her chin.  LOL!  She was the world's best mother – always caring for her husband and children with undying love.  An avid seamstress along with crocheting and knitting, she could also prepare meals like a top chef.  She was a life-long member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Billing Park and participated in a Faith Circle for many years.  Blessed with a beautiful voice, she is, now, singing with the choirs in Heaven.  As a gardener with her husband, Milt, the homestead would shine with stunning color.  She lived her entire life in Billings Park.

During their years together, Marilyn and mom went on many adventures including:  mom's first trip on the ferry to Madeline Island followed by several others, two flights to Mesa AZ at age 90 and 91 (her first commercial flights), carriage ride about Canal Park, playing tourist in Canal Park, harbor cruise, riding the steam train ride to Two Harbors MN, visiting Pattison Park, Gooseberry State Park, Amnicon State Park, Cascade Falls State Park, Banning State Park, Interstate State Park, Moose Lake State Park, Como Park Conservatory, Bentleyville, and Marcia Hale's Christmas display, hamburger lunches at Amnicon State Park, Loon's Landing, and the old Arrowhead Bridge site, visiting Ely, Biwabik, and Virginia MN, shopping at the Malls, Christmas Concert in Minneapolis, Wilderness Walk and Fishing Museum in Hayward WI, Duluth Zoo, Duluth Aquarium, touring Bayfield, lunches at many restaurants in the area near and far, lunches with the Petersons at the cabin in Barnes WI, Rose Garden in Duluth MN, wheelchair rides in the neighborhood, even trips to the car wash, Tires Plus, Kari Toyota … and, yes, the "dump" to dispose of garden debris and grass clippings and recycler to unload stuff.  As her ability to walk decreased, Marilyn joyfully "pushed her around" to continue seeing the sights – all of the adventures required a chair for assistance.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Milton; parents, Henry and Laura Salveson;  brother, William Salveson; son-in-law, Carl Magnuson.

She is survived by her children: Jeffery (Janet), Marilyn Magnuson, and Steven; grandsons Garett; Neil (Jennifer); and great-grandson, Brandt; sister-in-law Joan Salveson, plus several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Essential Health Hospice Home Care team:  Janice, social worker; Jennifer, Amy, and Collette, nurses; Nicole, CNA.

Pallbearers:  Garett and Neil Schroeder, grandsons; Gary, Rick, and Bill Salveson, nephews; Jeff Eliason and Gary Banker, family friends.

A celebration of her life will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1820 Wyoming Ave, Superior, WI on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, visitation at 10:00am until the service at 11:00am with Pastor Sean Koos officiating; a luncheon will be immediately after the service followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery.
