Frodesen
August 31, 1922 – December 18, 2019
Jeanne Campbell Frodesen, 97, of Superior, WI died peacefully December 18, 2019 at Superior Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 31, 1922 in Superior. She attended Superior Central High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a BA degree in Journalism. Jeanne was married for 67 years to George Frodesen who preceded her in death.
An active community leader, Jeanne was involved in the Douglas Country Historical Society, St. Mary's Hospital of Superior Auxiliary, charter member of the Superior Friends of the Library, the Animal Rescue Federation (ARF), and the Duluth Woman's Club which named her Twin Ports Woman of the Year in 2006, the first time since 1925 that a Superiorite received that honor.
Jeanne had a love for the theater and acting. She served on the Board of Directors of the Duluth Playhouse for more than ten years and appeared in 25 productions with lead roles or supporting roles in such productions as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof , Harvey , Guys and Dolls and Our Town but her favorite role was Ethel in On Golden Pond which she performed both at the playhouse and at UWS in Superior.
In 1987 the Superior Chamber of Commerce named Jeanne "Belle of Belknap" and she appeared in many parades as well as doing photo shoots for the merchants on Belknap Street.
Jeanne loved books and shared that love with others in her book club as well as becoming involved with city wide "Right to Read" program during the 1950's and 1960's and most recently reading to pre-schoolers (through the RSVP Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) who eagerly looked forward to Grandma Jeannie each month.
Over the years Jeanne volunteered as a writer of human-interest stories for both the Duluth and Superior local papers, writing about various events and activities in these cities.
Jeanne was very involved with Holy Assumption Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister and reader and volunteered for many church events and activities since she was a youth.
Her parents, Emily and Ford Campbell, her brothers Ford Jr. and Donald, her sisters Emily and Joyce, and her beloved son Mark preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughters Kristin Brown (Al) of Sedona, AZ, Jan of Goleta, CA, and Lila Frodesen (Terry Davidson) of New York, son Eric (Sheri) of Niceville, Fl, several grandchildren and one great- grandchild as well as nieces, nephews, and many dear friends especially Gwen Brand. The family wishes to thank Tami Susens and the staff at Harmony House for the wonderful care they provided Jeanne during the past five years.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Assumption Church next spring with notice to be given later as to the date and time. If desired, memorials may be made to the Superior Public Library which provided so many books on CD to Jeanne over the past several years or to the Douglas County Historical Society.
