Jeannett Irene Boxrud-Steen, 85, of Superior, WI formerly of Madelia, MN., died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospice in Duluth.
Jeannett was born in Madelia, MN. on Jan. 23, 1924, the daughter of Mabel (Arevik) and Jens Uleberg.
Jeannett attended Augsburg College and graduated from Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing, Minneapolis, in 1946. She participated in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps.
She worked for the Madelia Clinic as a registered nurse for 38 years. Jeannett was a Girl Scout leader and mentored many young girls. She was also an avid reader, Vikings fan, and loved to cook and sail.
Jeannett was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Phillip Everett Boxrud, who died in 1997.
Jeannett is survived by her husband, Royal Steen; her two daughters and their husbands, Kris (Boxrud) Gillard and Dr. Robert Gillard of Plano, Tex. and Dr. Cynthia Boxrud and Dr. Scott Powell of Pacific Palisades, CA. Grandchildren are James and Brit Gillard and Evan and Jessica Boxrud Powell; her three sisters, Estelle Swanson, Ruth Keller and Alice Lindberg.
Jeannett's stepchildren include Daniel and Laura Steen of Minneapolis, MN, Paul and Wendy Steen of Minneapolis, MN, Erik and Grace Steen of Brainerd, MN, and Mary and James Zastrow of Superior, WI.
Visitation will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church between 11-12:00 on Wednesday, October 28, with the memorial service beginning at noon, Rev. Sarah Larsen officiating. An additional memorial service will be held on Friday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia, MN with Rev. Gene Alms as officiant. Visitation will begin one hour before the service. Interment will follow immediately at the Lutheran Cemetery in Madelia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Superior, Faith Lutheran Church, Madelia or St. Mary's Hospice, Duluth.
