Jeffrey B.
Ballou
May 29, 1948 – May 13, 2024
Jeffrey Blake Ballou, age 75, passed away on May 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by loving family.
Jeff was born on May 29, 1948, in Duluth, MN, to Robert and Barbara (Kershaw) Ballou. Jeff received his BS in Education from the University of MN - Duluth, his MS in School Counseling from the University of WI - Superior and his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Iowa. Jeff was a licensed psychologist and loved working with and helping people. He continued that passion post-retirement by staying engaged with the Creative Counseling Group. His interest in helping others going through difficult times was balanced with spending much time in nature. He was a fierce advocate for the environment, and his lifestyle embodied those values. For most of his life, he lived in a passive solar earth sheltered home with a low carbon footprint. He protected the trees on his land from being logged and those trees are now part of the Forest Carbon Works Conserve. In death, he is also protecting the forest he loved so dearly through Landmark Conservancy so the land will be preserved in perpetuity.
Jeff is survived by his two sons, Jaron (Katie) Ballou and Collin (Erin) Ballou; his two daughters, Carolyn (Mark) Ballou Kassebaum and Allison (Jorge) Ballou Tirado; two grandsons, Daniel and Mason Ballou; four granddaughters, Ada and Mila Ballou, and Kylee and Grace Kassebaum; two sisters, Joy (Jim) Ballou Jantzen and Rebecca (Ken) Ballou Buck; many nieces and nephews; special brother-in-law and friend, Jim Johnson; and his loyal furry companion, Bentley.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Barbara Ballou; his wife, Jane Ballou; and his ex-wife, Karen Smith.
Visitation for Jeff will be held at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, WI 54880 on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
