Joan E. Messina, 81, of Superior, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday August 21, 2019 peacefully at her granddaughter's house.

Joan was born in Superior on May 26, 1938 the daughter of William and Susan Fancher. She married John A. Messina on January 3, 1959 and they celebrated 53 years of marriage until his passing in 2012.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and a volunteer at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital. She enjoyed golfing with John, baking, crafts and playing cards, especially Smear. Recently she enjoyed adult coloring books and framing her colored pictures for family and friends.

Joan was always helping and loving others. Most important to her was her family and being a Mom.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Joan is survived by her children, Suzette (Karl) Ehresmann of Superior; John W. (Jackie) Messina of Duluth and Patrick (Sherry) Messina of Superior; grandchildren, Nicole, Zachary, Joshua, Carissa and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Irelyn, Lileighanna, and Raelighanna.

Visitation will be on Monday August 26 ^th from 11:00 until the Noon Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Superior. Rev. Fr. Adam Laski will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Cemetery.
