Joanne Mae Carlson, 90, died on November 3, 2026, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior.

Joanne was born May 10, 1936, to Harry and Mathilda (Vierarcher) Bowers. She graduated from Ashland high school with the class of 1954 and moved to Superior. Joanne would marry Donald Carlson on July 2, 1955, in Superior. She worked as a CNA and Medical Transcriber at St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior, until her retirement in 1997. After retirement, she worked at Harmony House from 2007-2012.

Joanne enjoyed camping and spending time with family, especially her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mathilda; husband, Don; and 6 siblings.

Joanne is survived by her son, Tom (Jamie) of South Range; daughter Sandy Johnson of Wrenshall, MN; grandchildren Chelsey (Kerry) Anderson, Zack Litchke, and Jason Johnson; great-grandchildren Evelynn and Eleanore; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date.
