Joanne Johnson, 91, passed peacefully info the loving arms of her Savior on Saturday, September 5, 2020 surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 3, 1929 to Esther (Swanson) and John Stensland, Sr. Joanne was a lifelong resident of Superior, WI. After graduating from Superior Central High School in 1946, she began her college experience at Superior State College and completed her degree at St. Mary's School of Medical Technology in Duluth. She was active with both the Delta Sigma Sorority and UW-Superior Alumni Associations. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Jay Johnson, and they celebrated 48+ years of marriage before his death in 2004.
Joanne was a stay at home mom when her children were little, and she later completed two additional years of college with courses in education to become a teaching aide in Superior's school system. In this role, she helped to positively shape many children's lives at Ericsson and Cooper Elementary Schools. Joanne was kind and accepting of all, she loved people, and made friends wherever she went.
Jay and Joanne enjoyed many beautiful summers at Lake Nebagamon, WI. After retirement, they also spent many winters in Sun City, AZ. She was very proud to be a 50+ year member of PEO chapter AD-BG in Superior. She was also an avid bridge player and played with many of the same friends for over 60 years and was a loyal Vikings fan having gone through high school with Bud Grant. She was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Superior.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, John B. Stensland, Jr. and her very special aunt, Agnes Swanson.
She is survived by her three children who adored her, Jeff (Cindy) Johnson and their children Chris and Paige, the twins, James Steven "Jesse" Johnson and his children Calli and Cooper and Julie (Ross) Ohman and their children Jonathan, Joel and Jackie; two sisters-in-law, Jean Stensland and Susan (Dennis) Bengtson; two cousins, Nancy Nelson and Margaret Lane; two great grandchildren, Tyson and Mia; other family members and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to share food and fellowship following the 2 pm service in the backyard at Joanne's home in Central Park. Animal print clothing in honor of Joanne is welcomed as she loved all things with animal prints.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Superior Rehabilitation and St. Luke's Hospice staffs for their care and kindness extended to Joanne.
