Obituary

John P. Elmgreen, 70, of Superior, Wis. died Mon., Oct. 8, 2012 in Essentia Health-St. Mary Hospice, Duluth, Minn.

He was born Apr. 13, 1942 to Willa M. (Paulus) and Max Elmgreen.

He was a graduate of Superior East High School and he was interested in auto racing and sports. John had an extensive knowledge of Superior, the railroads, ore boats and bridges. He loved going for rides in the country and was active with the Challenge Center of Superior for many years.

John is lovingly remembered by his three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and Corky Danenfelzer of South Range, Wis.; Willa Ann Elmgreen of Superior; Gail Dahl of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Terry Golden of Minneapolis, Minn.; his McKenzie Manor family; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Elmgreen; and his step-mother, Cecil Elmgreen.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Challenge Center and also the doctors, nurses and staff from Essentia Health-St. Mary's for the care and kindness shown John and his family.

John's funeral service will be Fri., Oct. 12th at 10:00 a.m. in the Downs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci, Rector of Cathedral Of Christ The King officiating. The committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
