Obituary

John R. Freeman, 88, longtime Superior resident, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was born Aug. 8, 1931 in Pesotum, IL to LeRoy and Grace Freeman. John proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married his wife, Cygna "Sig" Enterline in Sept. 6, 1958. Cygna and he raised three sons, two of whom are also veterans like their dad.

John earned his Bachelor's and Master's of Fine Art degrees from Southern Illinois University.  Cygna and he moved to Superior, when he started his job at UW-Superior. John taught silversmithing in the art program. He also worked in the College of St Scholastica and Essentia Health before retirement. John belonged to the American Legion Richard I. Bong Post #435. He had many interests, and loved making people laugh. With that said, he kept his humor all through his short stay in the hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings.

John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cygna; his sons, Jon (Sherri), Randell "Randy" (Ellen) and Lee (Heidi) Freeman; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his dog Taco; and many relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life:
Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, 1-3 p.m., in the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, 305 Harbor View Parkway, Superior, WI.  Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
