Obituary

John "Jack" O. Ely, 84, of Superior, died of Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease, Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living, Proctor, MN.

He was born August 30, 1936 in Superior, son of Jarvis O. Ely and Alphild C. (Swanson) Ely.

Jack proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy for over 7 years.

On December 1, 1989 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior, John O. Ely and Arlene R. Corbin were united in marriage.

Jack worked many years for the U.S.P.S. in the Superior office, retiring as a postal clerk.

He enjoyed trap shooting, handguns, archery, building and flying model airplanes, fishing and hunting.

Jack was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and daughter, Karen Ely in 1979.

Survivors include his wife of over 31 years, Arlene; children, Jacquelyn Graves and Jane Danielson; brothers, James (Linda) Ely, Neenah, WI, and Donald (Carol) Ely, Athens, WI; stepchildren, Kim (Randy) Vezina, Harvey (Maria) Corbin, Jr., Mark (Stephanie) Corbin; 2 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren and one on the way; and first wife and mother of his children, Kay Ely.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, at a later date. Reverend Will Mowchan, pastor of Pilgrim Lutheran Church will officiate.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Diamond Willow Assisted Living, Proctor, for the loving care they provided Jack.
