John Stanley Sorenson, 74, died on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Superior Rehabilitation Center in Superior, WI, after a long battle with diabetes.

John was born on March 18, 1949 in Superior, WI to Stanley C. and Marian (Smith) Sorenson.

He graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1967 and went on to attend UW-Superior, where he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree.  John also attended the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Superior and Control Data Institute in Minneapolis, MN.

He worked alongside his father Stanley C. Sorenson at the Superior Municipal Employees Credit Union for several years.

John attended the former Zoar Lutheran Church in Superior.

He was an avid chess player and also enjoyed photography.  Go carts and snow machines were high on his list of favorite activities.  John had wonderful memories of his Circle Ride around Lake Superior on his motorcycle, and he was an all-around "great guy".

Diabetes was hard on him, and he lived in recent years at the Superior Rehabilitation Center on New York Avenue in Superior.  The family wants to thank the personnel for the wonderful care he was given during those years.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Alison (Drinkwine) Sorenson.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Jo (Alroy) Mersnick of South Range, WI, Myrna Sampson of Bloomington, MN and Christine Sorenson of Falls Church, VA.

In lieu of flowers, please think about volunteering with your local Hospice and cheer up a lonely patient.  John really looked forward to their visits.

A visitation will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service in Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St. with Rev. Darrell Kyle officiating.   Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
