Jonathan "Jon" Cartier Krueger, 61, of Superior, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.
He was born April 18, 1949 in San Diego, California, son of Darius and Phyllis (Norman) Krueger.
Jon was a "gung-ho!" kind of guy who approached life with great enthusiasm. In his mind it was "full bore" and "flat out" or don't do it at all.
After graduating from Rush City High School, Jon attended Gustavus Adolphus College, participating in rugby. Jon was very active and successful in football and track and field events.
Jon worked as an assessor for many years before getting into commercial painting, working primarily as an independent serving Wisconsin and northern Minnesota.
The challenge and satisfaction of doing everything to the best of his ability with God's help was paramount! Being "people" oriented, Jon engaged readily with those placed in his path. He was NOT shy in his witness to Jesus Christ and stood ready to help, eager to listen and willing to give his time at great sacrifice to himself. Jon enjoyed kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and had a great love for the outdoors, and lively instrumental Celtic music. Dragon boat racing captured his attention for several years, paddling with the "Wed Wiver Wotary Water Wats" at Barker's Island, Superior, WI.
Jon spent long hours examining his heart motivations, weighing them against God's word, wanting to be a "workman approved". Often he would converse with others in The Faith to improve his understanding, strengthen the ties of fellowship, and to pray for open doors with those he encountered….being mindful "to be about His Father's business".
Preceding him in death was his father, Darius Cartier Krueger.
Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Krueger, Nisswa, MN; sister, Cheryl (Darrel) Krueger Dahlberg, Rush City, MN; nephews, Kyle (Kim) Dahlberg, River Falls, WI, and Jared Dahlberg, Rush City, MN; niece, Jennifer (Dave) Dahlberg Meyer, Pemberton, MN; grand-niece, Autumn Haug and grand-nephew, Wyatt Meyer, both of Pemberton, MN.
Visitation will be from 10:30 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Central Assembly of God, 3000 Hammond Avenue, Superior, with Pastor Tom Miller officiating.
Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
