Joseph Francis Burbul, Jr., 82 of Cloquet, MN, died Friday, November 17, 2023, at Bayshore Residence and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth.

Joe was born April 29, 1941, to Ann (Nord) and Joseph Burbul, Sr. in Superior, WI.

He was employed as chief millwright working in maintenance with General Mills for 30 years. Joe also sailed the Great Lakes for 10 years, worked at Fraser Shipyard, Dan's Feed Bin and was the sexton for Parkview Cemetery for 30 years.

He was passionate about Great Lakes Shipping; was deeply knowledgeable about the ships and donated memorabilia to the Lake Superior Maritime Collection at UW Superior.  Joe was a member of the Lions Club, he enjoyed making willow baskets and woodworking, which he would give away as gifts. He will be remembered for his love of being with his friends and family. It was not uncommon for Joe to call his friends and family daily.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathleen; his son Tony; his sister, Barbara Hess; his brothers in-laws, Thomas Hess and Robert LaPorte.

He is survived by his daughter, Christine (Stuart) Soland; his step daughters, Brenda (Mark) Tuttle, Lea (Erin) Donahue and  Jenny (Scott) Marshall; his step son, William (Lindsay) Braman III; his sister, Cecelia LaPorte; his brothers, Charles (Cheryl) Burbul and Timothy (Marian) Burbul; his former wife, Patricia Ettestad; his grandchildren, Andrew (Rachel) Soland, Monica (William) Mullens, Bianca Jensen, Cory (Kelsey) Jensen, Anna Burbul, Daniel Burbul, and Jonathan (Miranda) Burbul; his great grandchildren, Jackson, Luke and Max Soland.

A celebration of life will be held from 12:00-3:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Hawthorne Town Hall.
