Obituary

Joseph P. McKenzie, 77, of Superior, WI passed away on March 28th, 2025, surrounded by the love and laughter of family.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Monina; parents, Catherine and Cyril McKenzie; and brothers, Daniel and Thomas McKenzie. He is survived by his children, Greg (Kris) McKenzie and Suzanne (Joe) Stenglein; grandchildren, Ashton, Gavin, Quinn, Adelina and Monina; siblings, Mary McKenzie, John (Faye) McKenzie and Jean (Steve) Watenphul; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Billings Park in Superior, WI.  He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1966.  He worked on the Great Lakes before serving his country in the US Army as an officer in the Military Police and Honor Guard from 1968-1970 and then worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for many years before retiring.  While serving he met his love, Monina, in Germany and they married in 1972.  After over 24 years of missing her, they are finally reunited.

Joe had many passions and accomplishments, he graduated from UWS with a BS in geography, was an avid fisherman of the Brule River, practiced martial arts and was a lifelong member of the YMCA.  He could fix almost anything, was a great neighbor, helped so many people, but most importantly, he made people laugh and smile.  He was a superstar dad and grandpa who is leaving us with life lessons, love, and so many laughs.  He was proud and fortunate to have been a part of the McKenzie family. He helped build this large, extended McKenzie family that has created infinite, long-lasting memories and traditions. His humor and love will be carried on for generations of McKenzies.
