Joseph A. Pioro, 85, of Superior, died Thursday, November 7, 2013, at his residence.
He was born December 6, 1927 in Superior, son of Jacob and Michelina (Kubarek) Pioro.
Joseph proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army, and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal.
In 1950 he was hired by the Great Northern Railroad and retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad as a carman in 1982.
On January 24, 1976 in Superior, Joseph A. Pioro and Geraldine L. Ford were united in marriage.
Some of his interests included bird watching, bird feeding, gardening and fishing.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, John Pioro.
In addition to his wife of 37 years, Joe is survived by his sister, Ann Harms, Orland Park, Illinois; many special nieces and nephews; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior. Reverend Father Ronald Olson will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Superior, with military rites accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post # 435.
