Obituary

Joy was born in Janesville, WI on February 22, 1933, and died on April 17, 2021 at St. Lukes Hospital, Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Matt"; sister, Joann at age 19; brother, Jule at age 9; and parents, Judith and Joe Hunt.

Joy will be missed by daughters, Cindy (Mike Sternal) Mataczynski, South Range, WI, and Toni Jo Mataczynski, Tucson, AZ; sons, Dr. James (Patrice) Mataczynski, Racine, WI, and Robert Mataczynski Jr., High Point, NC; grandchildren, Sylwia and Natalia Mataczynski, Carolyn (Travis) Jones, Stephanie (Jess) Belwood, Catherine (Alex) Amys, Steven Kucharyski, Jr., and Jule, Beau, and Eden Streety; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Miriam, Amber, Maddox, Jaxton, Hendryx, Zayda, Eiler, and Hannah.

She married Matt on November 12, 1955 after she graduated from Swedish American Nursing School, and Matt graduated from UW Madison Medical School. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Matt's death in 2010. They made Superior their home and raised 4 children. After retirement, they enjoyed winters in Arizona, and summers in Superior and Northland Campground.

Being a wife and mother were Joy's top priorities in life. She also worked at the UW Hospital in Madison and St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth. She was active in PTA, teaching Sunday School, bowling, golf, and tap dancing with the Elkettes in Superior and Hot Flashes in Tucson, AZ.

A celebration of Joy's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at United Presbyterian Church, Superior, with Reverend Brett Foote officiating.
