Joyce Mildred Schier, 74, of Superior, WI died Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospice, Duluth, MN.

Joyce was born to Basil and Mildred Thompson on August 6, 1937 in Oakdale, WI. The family moved to Rockford while Joyce was a small child. Joyce married Leo Schier in 1954. Joyce worked numerous jobs including waitress and furniture finisher. Yet, her greatest achievement was being a dedicated Wife and Mother. Joyce enjoyed the outdoors, whether fishing or working in the yard no matter the season. She enjoyed playing cards and reminiscing at family picnics.

Joyce was proceeded in death by her parents Basil and Mildred Thompson; brothers Joe, Jack, Jimmy, Donny, Mike, and Tom Thompson; sister, Gerry Penney; sons Leo Andrew, Larry Dale, Marty Darrel, and eldest daughter Susan Lorraine Szewcik.

Joyce is survived by her husband Leo Schier; daughters Terry (Dave) Lambert of Superior and Michelle (Tom) Kahler of Cherry Valley, IL; sons Leroy (Rose) of South Range, WI and Lyle (Debbie) Schier of Creswall, OR; grandchildren Allen (Tiffany) Thompson, Allison Kahler, Marla and Jena Schier and 6 great grandchildren. Brothers Duane (Deloris) Thompson of Roscoe, IL and Ralph (Elaine) Thompson of Machesney Park, IL; sister Joan Lassek of Rialto, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from noon until the 1 PM service Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Down's Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, WI with Denise Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.

Pallbearers will be Duane Thompson, Ralph Thompson, Leroy Schier, Allen Thompson, Dave Lambert and Tom Kahler.
