Joyce M. Zachau of Superior passed away Wednesday December 2, 2015 at Golden Living of Superior.

She was born on October 25, 1928 in Hancock, MI to Floyd and Helen Kahler. On July 9, 1949 Joyce was united in marriage to William 'Bill' Zachau in Detroit, MI. They lived in Superior where they raised their three daughters Jill, Deborah, and Rae Ann.

After being a stay at home Mom for many years, she went to work at the Window Shop and then became a secretary for Dr. Roger Thompson and Dr. Ron Warcholak.

Joyce was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and St. Francis Altar Society, and was a volunteer and buyer for the gift shop of St. Mary's Hospital of Superior for many years. After retirement she was a faithful swimmer with the ladies exercise class at the YMCA.

She was known for her Kopper Country Pasties, fluffy raisin cookies, and homemade hot mustard.

Joyce and Bill had a wonderful life together; having their home in Superior, summer home in Solon Springs, and the many trips to Marco Island, FL in the winter. Summer time was a time to plan picnics at the cabin where the food was delicious and the sauna always hot.

While at Golden Living she participated in most anything that was happening. From weekly Thursday Mass, to exercise class, and oh yes, her standing Wednesday shampoo set.

Above all, family was most important. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought so much joy and love to her life. She was proud of each and every one of them.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bill; daughter, Jill; and daughter and son-in-law, Rae Ann and Rick Ness.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Randy) Burkhart; grandchildren, Tony (Jill) Burkhart, Troy (Michele) Burkhart, Lisa (Doug) Widmer, Kristen (Jason) Zdroik, Kali (David) Storlie; eight great-grandchildren; and her daily visitor, Elaine.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Golden Living for their love and tender care given to our mom.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:00 with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Superior. Reverend James F. Tobolski will be officiating.

Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave., is assisting the family with arrangements.
