Judy Marie
Hilger
October 24, 1942 – February 14, 2017
Judy Marie Soyring Hilger, 74, of Superior, passed away peacefully at Essentia Health - St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth, on February 14, 2017.
She was born on October 24, 1942 in Superior to Arthur and Lila (Niemi) Soyring.
Judy was a lifelong resident of Superior. She grew up in Allouez and graduated from East High School in Superior. Shortly after, she attended and graduated from beauty school.
She married Thomas Hilger on September 3, 1965, and together they raised 3 children.
Judy was employed at various salons. Being a beautician was her life long career in which she enjoyed and met many good friends.
She was a long time member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where she was very active in the congregation, giving her time and countless pans of lemon and pumpkin bars, which no time soon will be forgotten. Judy was 100% Finn and very proud of her heritage… enjoying various festivals, music, dance, and customs. She was a hard worker, and not a complainer of any sort. The Finnish Sisu ran deep in her.
Judy had many interests. She helped out in the community in various ways, such as participating in Relay for Life, and numerous walk-a-thon's for good causes. She enjoyed traveling, going on road trips, working in her yard, and crafting of all kinds. She enjoyed preparing a delicious meal for others. She often had a good cup of coffee and listened to the "oldies"; never turning down the opportunity to dance a good polka. Most of all, Judy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids (even the four legged furry pals). She was caring and kind and will be missed deeply by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Judy is survived by her husband, Thomas; daughters, Linda Hilger, Brule, and Beth Harvey, Cambridge, MN; son, Robert Hilger, Robbinsdale, MN; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Joyce (Ron) Dembroski, Superior; brother, Michael (Jeanne) Soyring, Maple; and several nieces and nephews.
Her visitation will be at 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday, February 20 th , at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Superior, with Reverend Sarah Kerkes officiating.
The family acknowledges the loving care Judy experienced at the Bee Hive Homes of Duluth, and Essentia Health Hospice.
Memorials may be made in her name to Our Savior's Lutheran Church Building Fund, 1924 Wyoming Avenue, Superior, WI 54880.
