Obituary

June Eleanor Ayer, 89, of Superior, Wis. died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at her daughter's residence in Lake Nebagamon, Wis.

She was born February 6, 1921 in Superior, Wis. to Eleanor M. (Armitage) and Nicholi Holden.

She received her Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1972. Her teaching career was with the Superior School District, having taught at the Cooper, Nemadji and Lake Superior Elementary Schools.

Her memberships include Concordia Lutheran Church of which she was a Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Alter Guild, Past High Priestess of the Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association.

June enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, crossword puzzles and socializing. She loved her dogs. The time spent with her family at the cabin on Lake Nebagamon was a meaningful and important time for her.

Lovingly remembering her are her daughters, Janice (Walter) Schaller of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., Nancy (Walter) Avery of South Range, Wis., Barbara (Lorry "Butch") Cordts of Lake Nebagamon, and Eleanor (Louis) Bergeron of Superior; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Williams of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded her in death were her parents; her husband, Gordon Owen Ayer died on November 28, 1984; a brother, Robert Holden; and a niece, Sally O'Cordon.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 and the funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior. Rev. Charles Plaster will officiate. Committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Walter Schaller, Walter Avery, Louis Bergeron, Lorry Cordts, Bill Avery and Greg, Mike and Steven Culver.
