April 4, 1934 – December 1, 2020
June Nyberg, 86, of Superior, died Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Superior Health and Rehab Center.
June was born in Nashua, MT on April 4, 1934 the daughter of Sophie (Galovich) and Mike Uzelac.
She married James H. Nyberg on Oct. 15, 1955 and they celebrated 52 years of marriage until his passing in 2007.
June was blessed with many creative gifts that developed into talents she used in many ways throughout her life to help others. She was a Sunday school teacher and member of the South Range Presbyterian Church and worked as Secretary for Salvation Army Superior WI, for a period.
June admired the awesome beauty of Almighty God's Creation. She planted beautiful gardens loved to feed the birds, attempt to describe sunsets, take her children to parks with waterfalls and beaches to observe. She liked to go on trips when possible. June loved children.
June was a puzzle solver that tackled complex, upholstery repairs, knitting patterns, clothes designs, clothes creations, draperies and numerous other things. She learned how to repair, restore and personalize old family heirlooms. She also created new artistic heirlooms with paintings on things such as wooden bowels, trunks, cabinets, plates, boxes, clocks and other things that very skilled and kind craftsmen made for her to paint. She also enjoyed painting religious icons and scenes and scripture on ostrich eggs to support charitable fund raising events.
June created pictures of serenity beauty happiness, messages of hope, illustrations in child books, children and little people playing pranks on each other, dancing or stopping to look around and smell the flowers in landscapes on a wall.
June was well-known as an artist and teacher. She admired people and their heritages, and learned about their Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Russian cultures way of communicating through decorative folk art, and became a painter and instructor to share with others having similar appreciations, for over 40 years.
June was a founder of the Twin Ports Rosemaling Society and also taught rosemaling. She enjoyed Norwegian folklore and painting stories. She also taught at WITC, Vesterheim Folk Art School, and Bemidji Language Art School. When she was not painting, June enjoyed sewing, knitting, and gardening.
June was a diligent faithful servant of exceptional character, a selfless giver that touched the lives of many, and she was blessed by the reciprocal outpouring of love and care that she received in many ways from her neighbors and friends, in times of need for which her remaining family is forever grateful.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; brother, Jimmy; and sisters, Gloria (Skip) Rither and Rosemary (Goodie) Goodman.
June is survived by her five children, Gary (Ann) Nyberg of Florida, Kathy (Ralph) Thatcher of Florida, Deede (Tait McMorrow) Maki of Superior, Robin (Bruce) Thompson of Superior, and Randy (Lori Berube) Nyberg of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
A Celebration of June's Life will be held on Saturday July 17, 2021, from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Shamrock Pizza, 5825 Tower Avenue, Superior.
A private family graveside was held at Greenwood Cemetery.
