June M.
Roeben
November 7, 1938 – January 28, 2026
June Marie Roeben, 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Villa Marina Health and Rehab in Superior.
June was born on November 7, 1938, to Mary (Winek) and Maurice Sheasby. She married John "Jack" Ennis on February 25, 1957, and together they had four children. June later married Eugene Roeben on May 4, 1968, and they shared 24 years together before his passing in January of 1993.
A devoted mother, June worked tirelessly to provide for her children. She was well known in Superior's restaurant community for her many years working at Kitch's, as night manager of Louis' Café, and later as a night cashier at the Fond-du-Luth Casino. She loved the "material" and laughter the late-night crowd provided, and her stories were legendary, often delivering a bit of shock value and plenty of laughter.
Known to her patrons for her kindness, spunk, and a presence that made it clear the café ran on her terms; June could end nonsense with a single look. People often said, "Once you worked for June, you could work for anyone." She was also entrusted with secret recipes, most notably Louis' Café's pancake batter. She carefully guarded the recipe, often mixing ingredients in the basement or a locked office. In what her family believed was an act of love, June finally shared the pancake recipe. Only later, upon discovering her handwritten version, did they realize she had left out a few key ingredients, providing one last laugh and an unmistakable "of course" from June.
June loved cooking and making surprise food deliveries to those she cared about. With the honk of a horn, you knew to run outside and accept a treat. She was always up for dinner out or a trip to the casino. Family Christmases at her house are an especially cherished memory.
June was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior, a member of Beta Sigma Pi sorority, and was involved with the Pattison School PTA when her children were young.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Roeben; former husband, John Ennis; son, John Ennis; son-in-law, Scott Campbell; brother, James Sheasby; sister, Jane Bentley; her parents; and her parents-in-law, Fred, and Elsie Roeben.
June is survived by her children, Susan Campbell, Debra Hart, and Robert (Donna) Ennis; eight grandchildren, Kelly Ennis-Legore, Nick Hart, Patrick Ennis, Meagan Avery, Christopher Hart, John Ennis, Elizabeth Anderson, and Stephanie Campbell; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
June will be remembered for her quick wit and generous heart. She showed her love through hard work, good food and unforgettable stories. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, resilience, and love that will continue to be shared for generations. The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Villa Marina for the care and love they provided, especially Jessica and Sandy, whom June adored.
