Karen Bridget (Carter) White died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with cancer at Essential Health–St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN on January 10, 2020 at the age of 68.
Karen was born on May 26th, 1951 in St. Louis, MO to Woodrow and Vivian (Kramer) Carter. She graduated from Cleveland High School of St. Louis, MO in 1969. She was married to Gary White of St. Louis for twelve years and had moved to Michigan and then settled in Hermantown, Minnesota. During her lifetime, Karen worked as a waitress in the food and beverage industry at places like the JCPenney restaurant, Mr. Steak and over 17 years at Keyport Lounge in Superior, WI where she made many lifelong friends and met her fiancé, Dave. Her daughters remember her as a supportive and caring mother who would do anything for anyone even if she didn't have the means to.
Karen enjoyed playing dart leagues for many years and reading books. Karen coached her daughter's soccer and softball teams while living in Hermantown and eventually lived in Proctor for many years before moving to Superior in 1998. Karen 's greatest joy in life were her grandchildren and her dogs, especially her Springer, Duchess.
Karen is survived by her fiancé, David Belshaw of Superior, WI; daughter, Traci (Jeff) Ruprecht of Hermantown, MN; daughter, Dana (Mickey) Peterson of Proctor, MN; grandchildren, Austin, Caden, Baylie, Nolan, and Kellen; and by her niece, Kim (Carter) O'Farrell of Fairview Heights, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Alice and infant son, Gary.
A visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 20th from 4-6 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, WI, with a Celebration of Life following the visitation at 6 p.m. at The Keyport Lounge, 1900 Belknap St., Superior, WI. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Karen's life. The family would like to thank the Oncology staff at Essentia Health for their care and dedication to Karen during her battle.
