Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kathy) McDonald on July 3, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kathy was born on April 11, 1947, to Raymond and Polly Ann (nee Chaffey) Hulter.  She was a resident of Superior, Wisconsin before moving to her lifelong home that she and her husband Hugh built on family land in Chaffey-Foxboro, Wisconsin.

Kathy had a true artist's spirit, finding joy in painting and expressing her creativity through her impressive knowledge of birds and their names. Her love for nature extended beyond her art, she delighted in feeding and caring for the deer, birds, squirrels, bears, and any animals fortunate enough to visit her home. She also loved working on various projects around the house, tending to her numerous gardens and creating a space of comfort and joy. Her green thumb and dedication to her home brought beauty and serenity to all who visited.

Kathy shared a life full of adventures with her husband and high school sweetheart, Hugh. Together, they traveled across the United States, creating cherished memories in their favorite places such as Las Vegas, New Orleans and Disney World. Kathy also enjoyed reading books and watching old movies, which often brought back fond memories of her travels and life with Hugh. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories and sharing her love for nature and family.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Gerald (Gerry) Hulter, sister-in-law Jean (nee MacInnes) Hulter, nephew Todd Nykanen, and her loving husband of 44 years, Hugh.

Kathy is survived by her brother Jack Hulter; children, Scott McDonald, Christopher (Julia) McDonald, and Amy (Tony) Swendsrud; grandchildren, Alexis (Nathan) Nienow, Allison (Zachary) Hancharik, Richard Minh Le, Laura and Scott McDonald Jr.; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Brooks and Mila Nienow, brother-in-law Donald Nykanen and sister-in-law Michelle (nee McDonald) Nykanen, nephew Bradley Nykanen and two nieces, Susan (Mark) Howard and Lynn Hulter.

Kathy was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, passion for nature, and love for animals. Her love for family and nature will always be cherished and her spirit of curiosity and adventure will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A memorial service to celebrate Kathy's life will be held at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th Street, Superior, Wisconsin, on Friday, August 30th, 2024, at 11:00am with a visitation starting at 10:00am.
