Kenneth William Moore, 67, of Solon Springs, formerly of Superior, died Friday, September 18, 2015, at his residence.
He was born September 18, 1948, in Superior, son of Verlyn and Virginia (VanDamme) Moore.
Ken served his country with the U.S. Army. While in Vietnam, he earned 2 bronze stars with one having an oak leaf cluster.
On January 9, 1971, in Superior, WI, Kenneth W. Moore and Cynthia M. Whitacre were united in marriage.
Ken worked for BNSF and retired in 2008 as ship loader for BNSF Taconite. He was also a homebuilder and extremely talented craftsman. He loved building, designing, and fixing things. He was extremely knowledgeable and talented with tools.
Ken enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. A great day for him would be a good limit of walleye off the lake. He enjoyed taking trips to Alaska and Canada with his friends and family to experience the outdoors. He loved taking his granddaughter Paige to Orlando as they shared a love of Disney. He had recently become a fan of girl's fast pitch softball and was his granddaughter Ruby's #1 fan. His 3rd grandchild, Mason was just born on July 1st and brought a smile to his face each time they spent time together. The kids kept him young and he never turned down an adventure with them including amusement park rides and waterslides.
Ken and Cyndy were known to hop in the car or motor home for a day trip or weekend away. Sometimes unplanned trips were their favorites. They also enjoyed their home on the lake with their neighbors and friends close.
Coffee and breakfast out with the family were two regular past times that he enjoyed greatly. He also loved the 4th of July and grand fireworks displays.
Preceding him in death were his nephew, Ryan Moore; and special friends, Tom VanDriessche and Dan Kurtz.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Cyndy; daughter, Dana (Ben) Carlson, Duluth; son, Russell (Sara) Moore, Superior; grandchildren, Paige Barnard, Mason Carlson and Ruby Moore; parents, Verlyn and Virginia "Sis" Moore, Superior; and brother, Brian (Fran) Moore, Superior.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 12 noon service, Friday, September 25, 2015, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior. Gary Banker will officiate. The service will conclude at the funeral home, with military rites accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the Belgium Club, 3931 E. 2nd Street, Superior, following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to make a memorial donation to the Belgium Hall in Superior, WI in Ken's name and also set aside a trust for each of his beloved grandchildren Paige, Ruby, and Mason.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Larson, Ken Stein, Bob Miller, Jim Murray, Dick Van Rossem, Brian Moore, George LaValley, Tom Noble, and Will Sumner.
