Obituary

R. Kenneth 'Ken' Udean, 87, of Superior, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Essentia-St. Mary's in Duluth. Ken had been living at the Lighthouse of Superior since 2010.

Ken was born in Royalton Township, MN on March 4, 1927 the son of George and Mildred Udean.

He served his country during WWII enlisting in the Navy from 1945 to 1948. He served aboard the USS Bowditch and was stationed at the USNOB in Grondahl, Greenland.

Ken had come to Superior to work for the Great Northern Railroad and then became a Master Carpenter. He worked for the local carpenters' union and for the Board of Education retiring in 1989.

He was an avid hunter and excellent marksman. He loved to go fishing. Ken could build or repair anything. He enjoyed meeting on the 1st Tuesday of every month with his breakfast group. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and VFW Post #847.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; two sons, Gregory and Brian Udean; brother, Gerald Udean, sister, Rose Hopkins and a special friend, Joyce Hendricks.

Ken is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandie and Doug Lemons of Columbus, NC; grandchildren, Todd Lemons, Ashley Udean, Tylor Udean and Adam Udean; great-grandchildren, Haylee, Cora and Arianna; daughters-in-law, Janet Udean and Kathy Udean; brother, Dennis Udean; two sisters, Mavis Smith and Judy Morgenweck; and special friends, Mae Jacobson, and Scott And Russ Hendricks.

Visitation will be on Monday, Jan. 12 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Bethel Lutheran Church. Rev. Gary Garnatz will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
