Laraine K. Matushak, 97, of Superior, died Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Dove Health Care in Superior.
Laraine was born in Superior on October 27, 1927, the daughter of Emil and Jennie (Sertich) Vucovich.
After high school, she earned her teaching degree and was a teacher for many years at WITC (now Northwoods Tech).
Laraine was a member of many organizations and served on multiple boards. Her memberships include the Superior Elk's Lodge #403 which included the dance group, Elkettes, Catholic Daughters of America, Superior Area Retired Teachers, United Cerebral Palsy, Special Olympics, Challenge Center Board, and Nemadji Women's Club. She enjoyed golfing, socializing with her friends, and downhill skiing well into her 80's.
She delighted in traveling the world and was able to go to places such as China, Australia, New Zealand, England, Croatia, Italy, Germany, France, many places in the United States and her beloved cabin on Lake Nebagamon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, James Sauter; second husband, Raymond Matushak; daughter, Mary Kay Sauter; stepsons, Steve and Brad Matushak; brothers, George (Charlotte) Vukovich and Dan Vucovich; sisters, Mary (Fran) Paquette and Annie Vucovich; brother-in-law, Ted (Judy) Matushak; and nephew, Francis "Packy" Paquette.
Laraine is survived by her three sons, Timothy (Nan) Sauter, Jeff (Donna) Sauter, and Mark (Tina) Sauter; grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Sauter, Neil (Shannon) Sauter, Adam (Amber) Sauter, Logan (Courtney) Sauter, Aleah Sauter, Casey Sauter, Drew (Blair) Sauter, Alysia (Mike) Christy, Jay (Erin) Matushak, and Chad (Kristi) Matushak; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Vucovich; daughters-in-law, Kathie Matushak and Barb Matushak; and 13 nieces and nephews.
An informal Celebration of Laraine's life will be held on Friday, May 23rd from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Superior Elks Lodge 1503 Belknap St, Superior.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 25th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 11648 E County Rd B, Lake Nebagamon with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Lunch will follow mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Laraine's name may be made to the Challenge Center or to St. Vincent DePaul.
