Lawrence S. Nordlund, 91, of Superior, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Bayshore Health Center, Duluth, Minn.
Lawrence was born in Painsfield, Michigan on March 6, 1921 the son of Sigfred and Hilda Nordlund. He married the former Juliann Goettl during WWII.
He served his country during WWII in the 8th Army Air Force stationed in England.
In 1963 Lawrence had received a Life Saving Plaque for his actions when an Air Force plane crashed into their house in Middle River and he ran in and saved Juliann.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Thomas F. Stein VFW post 1091.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juliann in 1999; brothers and sisters, Ovia, Leo, Clarence, Elaine, Dorothy and Lila; brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Elsie Marcellis, Sally and Jack Macomber, Richard Tiry, Norman Henneman, Charlene Sagen, Olivia Goettl, Adam Goettl, Jack Cunningham and Lester Arneson.
Lawrence is survived by his nieces and nephews, Don Nordlund of Superior, Sandra Willess of Chesterfield, VA and Dennis Nordlund of Superior; brothers and sisters in-law, Valeria Tiry, Lorraine Arneson, Margaret Cunningham, Toni Henneman, Francis and Charlene Goettl and Ed Sagen; and many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22 from 5-7p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 23 from 9 a.m. until his funeral service at 10 a.m. at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. Rev. Will Mowchan of Pilgrim Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
