Lee George McGonegal, 82, died August 23, 2021, at Villa Marina Health and Rehab.
He was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Portage, Wis., to Ruby Mae (Lee) and Russell McGonegal and resided in Superior most of his life.
He graduated from the former Superior Central High School in 1957 and had been employed as a journeyman printer by The Daily Telegram composing room nearly 40 years, starting there on July 2, 1957, and retiring Jan. 15, 1997.
Mr. McGonegal served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. His battalion was activated during the Berlin Crisis in 1961 and spent a year at Fort Lewis in the state of Washington waiting for possible deployment to Germany.
He was a member of the Superior Printing, Publishing and Media Workers Sector Local #163/14551, Communication Workers of America. He and his wife, the former Linda L. Stalvig, were married Aug. 31, 1979, in Carlton, Minn.
He is survived by a brother-in-law Frederick M. (Rita) Stalvig, Foxboro; a sister-in-law Rita McDonald, Superior; a nephew Josh (Kelly) Stalvig, Andover; nieces including Shannon (Jason) Peterson, Maple, Tamara Gutierrez, Superior, and many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, his mother Ruby McGonegal, his father Russell McGonegal, his grandparents Percy and Amelia Lee, a brother-in-law Finley K. Stalvig, a sister-in-law A. Ann Saari, a nephew Jerick Todd (nee Todd Stalvig) and a great grandnephew Watson Rowan.
At his request, there will be no funeral. Private internment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
