Leona Mae McGuirk, 91, of Superior died Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth

Leona was born on the family farm on May 11, 1933, the daughter of Stanley and Emily (Snoeck) Wnek. She married Malcolm McGuirk on June 20, 1953, and they recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.

Leona had worked for Jeno's Pizza for 12 years and then as a volunteer in nursing homes.

She loved knitting and crocheting and made beautiful dolls. She also enjoyed going out to eat at restaurants, especially Dairy Queen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Jeremy and Jada McGuirk; brothers, Joe, Stanley, Henry and Carl Wnek; and sister, Theresa Uotinen.

Leona is survived by her husband, Malcolm; children, Joanne (Tom, Sr.) Roeber of Superior, Jeanne (Chauncey) Bangs of Barnes, Janice (Steven) Sneide of Proctor, James McGuirk of Florida, Jerold (Wendy) McGuirk of Georgia, Julie (Joseph) Sullivan of Foxboro, John (Lisa) McGuirk of Superior and Jeffrey McGuirk of Superior; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sisters, Genevieve Giles and Rosie Samuelson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2316 E 4th Street, Superior, with Very Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
