Leona M. St. John, 87 of Superior, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at Golden Living Center, Superior.

She was born March 27, 1924 in Superior, daughter of Andrew and Merlyn (Monroe) Johnsen.

Following a childhood romance, that started as sixth grade neighbors, on December 26, 1942 in Superior, Leona Johnsen and Roy St. John were united in marriage. Leona died on what would have been their 69th wedding anniversary.

In addition to her great love for Roy, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren loved her and it was most evident that she loved them.

One of her favorite pastimes was knitting.

Preceded in death by husband, Roy in 1997; son, Michael; and 2 grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharron (Willy Becker) St. John, Madison, WI; sons, Richard St. John, Luck, WI, Edward (Linda) St. John, Superior, and David (Evelyn) St. John, South Range, WI; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Johnsen; and 3 nieces.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior. Their will be no service.

Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Superior, at a later date.
