Obituary

Leonard H. Ward, 90, of Superior, joined his wife Ernestine in Heaven on the morning of Thursday, June 14, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth surrounded by his family.

He was born in West Allis, WI, on June 17, 1927, the son of Henry 'Pete' and Jennie Ward.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ernestine Ward; and brothers, Gordon and Hugh Ward.

Leonard is survived by his children, Frank (Kathy) Ward of Oregon; Judy (Gordy) Mossberger of Superior, and Mike (Nancy) Ward of Superior; 6 grandchildren, Tricia (Michael) Lawrence, Amy (Troy) Gehrmann, Mark (Sarah) Ward, Blake (Kathy) Ward, Tyler (Crystal Tokarczyk) Mossberger, and Heidi (Lindsay) Ward; 13 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Dolores Monberg.

Leonard attended Superior Central High School where he played basketball with Bud Grant.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy right out of high school at the age of 17 and served during WWII.

It was in high school where Leonard met Ernestine Bernice Cook, a woman he married on November 7, 1946.  They were married for 59 years, sharing many wonderful memories.

Leonard retired from the Superior Fire Department as assistant chief after 36 years of dedicated service.  He loved golf and spending time with family and friends.  He had a strong Christian faith.  He was an ordained minister and wrote 2 books of Christian life and faith.

Leonard will be dearly missed by all.

His visitation will be on Monday, June 18, 2018, at Central Assembly of God from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. with the Superior Fire Department Honor Guard standing watch.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with and Rev. Tom Miller officiating and Rev. Dan Stone as eulogist.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
