Obituary

Linda Joyce (Conkright) Willcoxon, age 78, of Superior, Wisconsin, passed away at home following a brief illness on July 16.

Born in Cloquet November 12, 1947, the fifth of seven children, Linda spent her early years in Sawyer and Cromwell before moving to Superior.

She dedicated her life to helping others, leading Brownie troops in the 1970s, volunteering at Nemadji Elementary in the 80s where she earned the nickname Swish Lady for delivering fluoride rinse to classrooms, serving on the Superior School Board and the Douglas County Civil Service Commission.

Linda led the Health Care Clinic in Superior as executive director for 22 years. She was committed to providing underserved communities with reproductive care and family planning services.

Music, laughter, animals and children filled the home she made with her husband of 52 years, Pete Willcoxon. Linda seemed born for the role of mother, fiercely loving and caring for their four children as well as numerous others throughout her life. She is survived by husband Pete, daughters Melissa Iacone, Allison (Eric Smith) Iacone, Heather Willcoxon and son Peter (Kristen) Willcoxon.

Linda’s most fulfilling years were the ones she spent as Grandma Lala, adored by grandchildren she affectionately referred to as “the grands”. She will be dearly missed by Ethan Murray, Owen and Henry Willcoxon, Lily Hoff, Mason and Gianna Smith and bonus “grands” Mallory and Sophia Ballard.

Linda is also survived by brothers David and John Conkright and sisters Nancy Lego and Janie Harr. She is preceded in death by her parents Allan and Ilona (Bjork) Conkright, sister Susan Walker and brother Robert Conkright.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 7 at Downs Life Celebration Center at 1902 N. 34th St in Superior with visitation at 12:00pm and family-led service at 1:00pm.

Her family extends its deepest gratitude to the Essentia Health hospice team for their dedicated and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Linda’s name to Health Care Clinic of Superior or an animal rescue of your choosing.
