Lois E. Strauman, 92, of Superior, died Saturday, September 15, 2018, in her home.
She was born in Superior on June 14, 1926, the daughter of Robert and Mabel Carlson.
Following her high school graduation from Superior Central High School, Lois matriculated and graduated from the cadet nursing program at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her nursing career as an L.P.N. and medical secretary included hospitals and clinics in Minneapolis, Duluth and Superior.
Lois was a very active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. She was also a part of the Superior Women's Club, Fairlawn Auxiliary, Superior Junior Chamber of Commerce, Gold Card Member of Musicians Union, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and the Douglas County Historical Society.
She enjoyed traveling and has been all over the world. She spent 10 years wintering in the Carribean and 24 years in Florida.
Lois loved music and was a part of many bands over the years including the 2 plus 1 Combo and the Lorne Budnick Trio. Many will remember her music at Smithy's Supper Club in Solon Springs and other places in northern Wisconsin and northern Minnesota. Numerous children and adults learned how to play the accordion from Lois when she taught at Nickelson's Music. Another interest of hers was cribbage and other card clubs. Lois also enjoyed investments and her investment club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; sister, Joan Abrahamzon; beloved pets, Gizmo, Dexter, Sammy and Puffy; and many dear friends.
Lois is survived by her children, Bradley Strauman of Boca Raton, FL, Kristine Strauman of Clintonville, WI, Karen (Jeff) Strauman of Fresno, CA, and Craig Strauman of Superior; grandchildren, Kimberly (Jesse) Leffel, Jennifer (Geremy) Leffel, Brittney (Jared) Eller, and Craig (Jennifer) Raymond; great-grandson, Maverick Eller; 5 nieces, Kathy (Leo), Peggy (Jeff), Jane, Amy (Daryl), and Beth(Kirk); 3 nephews, Gary (Regina), Lee (Linda) and Bruce (Lisa); and special friends, Steve Rehl and Tom Moore.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19 th Street, Superior, and will resume at 10 until the 11 a.m. service, Friday, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap St, Superior, with Reverend Will Mowchan officiating.
