Loretta A. Learn, 94, of Superior, died peacefully Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Lighthouse of Superior Assisted Living.
She was born February 27, 1917 in Oriska, ND, daughter of John and Mary (Winkler) Heiling.
On July 27, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN, Loretta A. Heiling and H. Allan Learn were united in marriage and were graced with 61 loving years together.
Loretta graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota and worked for the Mayo Clinic before moving to Minneapolis where she then was employed by International Harvester as an industrial nurse.
She was a registered nurse working pediatrics at St. Joseph's Hospital in Superior until the hospital closed, followed by employment as an industrial nurse at Fraser Shipyard until her retirement.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, H. Allan Learn in 2003; great-granddaughter, Jasmyn Starstead earlier this year; four sisters, Albina, Marcella, Marie and Irene; and a brother, Norbert.
Survivors include 5 children, James (Beverly) Learn, Superior, Alene (Donald) MacKenzie, Superior, Dan (Patricia) Learn, South Range, Ron (Mary) Learn, Oliver, and Peggy (Tom) Lee, Rochester, MN; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Peggy Conlon, North Dakota, and Bobbie Dorrington, California; nieces and nephews; and close friends, Mae Jacobson and Marilyn Burm, both of Superior.
She was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior.
Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, July 11, 2011 at Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior. Reverend Father Andrew P. Ricci will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
Pallbearers will be Michael Defoe, Jeff Peterson, Jeremy Peterson, Steven Learn, Charles Learn, Brian Learn and Nathan Farmer.
The family extends a special thank you to their new-found family at the Lighthouse of Superior.
