Obituary

Lorraine E. "Waine" Tollers, 91, a lifelong South Range resident died Sat., Apr. 27, 2013 at her latest residence, Harmony House in the Village of Superior.

Lorraine was born July 10, 1921 in the family homestead in South Range, Wis. She was the sixth of seven children born to Julia (Johnson) and Charles B. Olson, owners of Olson Dairy. She attended the McKinley Elementary School, a one room country school. In 1939 Lorraine graduated from Superior Central High School and then graduated in 1942 from St. Luke's Nursing School in Duluth, MN.

On May 15, 1942 she was united in marriage to Raymond Walter Edward Tollers at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Raymond was an enlisted serviceman in the U. S. Army and she followed him to Army bases in both Texas and California. Nursing was an integral part of who Lorraine was. Her lifelong career began with a brief stint as an Army Auxiliary nurse while following her husband during WWII. When he was deployed overseas, Lorraine came home to raise her family. When her six children were in school she resumed her nursing career, starting at St. Joseph's Hospital in Billings Park where she held the position of head nurse. Upon the closing of the hospital she worked at Middle River Health Care Center, Chaffey Nursing Home and Fieldview Manor.

When living in South Range, she was known as "The Country Nurse". As a member of the South Range Presbyterian Church she volunteered with Marie Arneson as a Pioneer Parish Nurse. She retired from nursing in her seventies.

Lorraine was the matriarch of her family. Her home in South Range was always filled with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "The farm" was the core and the epitome of family for five generations.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Linda (Douglas) Ensminger of Lexington, KY, Raymond D. (Michele Fitzgerald) Tollers of Duluth, MN, Terry (Sue) Tollers of Eau Claire, WI, Steven (Sandy) Tollers of Duluth, MN, Dennis Tollers of Superior, WI, Wendy (Neil) Fairbanks of Stoughton, WI; twenty grandchildren, Erik Mortensen, Dana (Keith) Frank, Megan (John) Collier and Brendan Ensminger, Ray (Toni) Tollers, Jr., Danielle (Nick) Lavato, Matt (Missy) Tollers, Taylor and Chandler Tollers, Greg (Staci) Tollers, Adam (Stephanie) Tollers and Tiffany Tollers, Kim (Dan) Rawley and Paul Tollers, Dennis (Tracy) Tollers, Jr., Jesse Tollers and Nikki (Dave) Lukovsky, Jeffery (Amanda Davis) Burkhart, Angela (Joe) Krisher and Rusty Burkhart; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Erik Mortensen, Ray, Dennis, Greg, Adam, Paul and Matt Tollers and Jeff and Rusty Burkhart.

A time of visitation will be held Thurs., May 2nd from 1:00 p.m. until the Celebration of her Life at 3:00 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church with Rev. H. Duane Aslyn officiating. Committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church.
