Lowell W. Banks, 91, of Superior, died Sunday, September 29, 2019. He had suffered many years with congestive heart failure but was always putting one foot in front of the other, he was the epitome of wanting to "Get back up to bat".
He grew up in the depression era with 7 siblings, Dallas, Eva, Ray, Richmond, Marvel, Bea and Marvin. Born March 7,1928 to Clara and Louis Banks in Bennett, Wisconsin.
Lowell was the UW-Registrar since 1975, retiring in 1991. He had served as student teaching supervisor and coordinator of professional experience. A masters degree graduate at UW-Superior, Banks earned his BS degree from UW Madison. He taught at ST Croix and Northwestern High schools from 1953 to 1959, when he was appointed assistant superintendent of schools for the Maple School District.
He served in the US Navy during World War II as a Navy Seaman 1st Class.
Lowell enjoyed golfing, writing, family and creative woodworking. He always strived to be better, pursuing self-improvement daily writing his sermons and reading the Bible.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Phyllis Marie and Mary Ellen; daughter, Julie Ann; his parents; and 5 siblings.
Lowell is survived by son, Larry (Kelly) Banks; daughter, Cheri (Terry) Olson; step daughter, Jane Howard; grandchildren, Amanda (Mark), Jacob, Zachary, Dallas, Vincent, Trey, Shanna (Jesse), and Rebecca (Sam); great-grandchildren, Riley, Yuna, Jazmine, Christian, Isaiah, Annabelle, Lola, Wesley, Michael, Clara, Zach, Devon, and Mercy; and best golfing friend, Tom Mullvain.
His positive impact on our family, his students, family and friends could never be measured. He will be missed and always loved.
His service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Ave. Visitation on hour prior. Rev. Joel Certa-Werner officiating.
