November 7, 1926 – June 24, 2021
Lucille E. Vendela, lifelong resident of Superior, passed on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the age of 94 at Cedar Ridge Assisted Living.
Lucille was a beloved wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and sister. She loved being able to raise her family. She then worked at Holzberg's laundry and later in life worked for many years with the Foster Grandparent organization at Bryant Elementary in South Superior. Lucille found passion and great joy helping her second graders read, do math, and complete their school assignments. She also enjoyed snowmobiling, gardening and canning, auctions, and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence 'Kelly' Vendela in 1996; daughter-in-law, Angela Vendela in 2011; and nine brothers and sisters.
Lucille will be missed by her family, including her three sons, Richard (Verna), Thomas, and Ronald (Karen) Vendela; daughter, Dianne (Carl) Mencel; sister, Florence Goddard; grandchildren, Gary Vendela, Cari (Paul) Thompson, Shelly (Jon) Dalbec, Tina Vendela, Lisa Vendela, Toni (Raymond) Tollers, Anna (James) Banaszak, Ingrid Vendela, Shannon (Gordy) Carlson, Spike (Deb) Mencel, and Danielle (Andy) Hudacek; great grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, and James Vendela, Teri Thatcher, Sara Thompson, Taylar and Myranda Dalbec, Nash Tollers, Britany Zarrillo, Victoria Banaszak, Malia Ezinkwo, Paul Rut Jr., Gordon and Gwenn Carlson, Gavin, Grant and Greta Mencel, and Sydney, Walker and Jaxson Hudacek; and great great grandchildren Lindsay and Emmalynn Schuyler.
Lucille will be remembered for her tenacity, for her wisdom, and her honesty. Remember her saying, "If you don't want the truth, then don't ask."
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 29, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 Street in Superior. Pastor Bridget Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Spike and Gary, and great-grandsons, Gordon, Nash, James, and Jeffrey.
The Vendela's would like to extend a special thank you to assisted living care workers Emily, Tiffany, MaKenzie, and Amanda for taking such special care of our mother during her time of need, and for loving her as your own.
