Lucy M. Nelson, 69, of South Range, died November 19, 2021, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN, shortly after losing her life partner, Danny C. Nelson, to whom she was married for 47 remarkable years.

Lucy was born February 18, 1952, in Port Washington, daughter of Lee and Jean (Arseneau) McPherson.

She attended Superior High School, where she met the love of her life, Danny, during a freshman English class. Together, the two went on to raise three wonderful children.

Lucy was a steadfast caregiver, who devoted her life to helping others in so many different capacities. She enjoyed a 30-year career as a bus driver for the School District of Superior, where she treated every child who got on and off her school bus, as if they were one of her own. During the summers, Lucy reveled in the extra time she had to spend with her own children, as they continued to grow. As her own parents aged, Lucy dedicated her time to serving as their primary caregiver, as well. And, wherever Lucy went over the years, her beloved canine companions were never far behind.

Lucy was an avid reader who often enjoyed getting lost in the pages of her books until well into the early-morning hours. Other hobbies included knitting, doing cross-stitch, creating beautiful custom stained-glass works, and gardening. Lucy loved to travel both near and far, and her ability to pack for her and Danny's many adventures ensured the two always enjoyed every comfort of home. One of her favorite trips was to revisit Cedarburg, where she spent her youngest years.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Danny, and her parents, Lee and Jean.

She is survived by her children, Andrew (Ann) Nelson of Watertown, MN, Katie (Jason) VandeKamp of Scandia, MN, and William (Corinne) Nelson of South Range, WI; grandchildren, Ashton and Adaline Nelson, Carter, Parker, and Gavin VandeKamp, and Weston Nelson; sisters, Martha Reiser and Nancy Tess; brother, Lee "Mac" McPherson; her dear friend, Jenny Stroozas; and many other extended family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering for both Lucy and Danny on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until the Noon service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior. Gary Banker will officiate.
