LuVerne N. Paine, 93, of Superior, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Superior.

She was born September 4, 1917 in Spring Valley, MN, daughter of George and Elvira (Carothers) Darst.

LuVerne came to Superior when she was 16 years old, and two years later graduated from Superior Central High School in 1935.

She went to work at Scott's Dollar Store where she worked up to be the office manager. She was transferred to Chicago.

She met Robert "Bob" Paine in 1941 just before he was called to service. There were married September 27, 1942 at St. Alban the Martyr Church, Superior.

LuVerne also worked for Tower Carpet and Color as office manager, and later worked for her son at Superior Company Industrial Supply.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Robert in 1968; son, Paul John; brother, Claude Darst; and sister, DeVona Silver.

Survivors include her sons, Robert "Pete" (Susan) Paine, Frederick (Nancy) Paine, and Michael Paine, all of Superior; 9 grandsons; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until the 10:30 Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 E. 4th Street, Superior. The celebrant will be Reverend Father James Tobolski.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.

Pallbearers will be Scott, Greg, Mike, Jim, Fred Jr. and Brady Paine.

Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
