Lydia tried to attend every activity and event in which her daughters and grandchildren took part. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her daughters, grandchildren, and family were most important to Lydia.
Lydia's hobbies were reading, flower and vegetable gardens, country dance, Boundary Waters, riding her Harley, completing 10 marathons (26.2 miles), sailing on Lake Superior, sewing, crafts, scrapbooking, and traveling. Lydia & Bill's travels took them to such varied places as Israel, Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and many places in the U.S. Lydia was very quiet and reserved but was bursting with life – she was just fun to be with.
Another very important part of Lydia's life was education. She earned an associate degree from Northwood Technical College (WITC) and both a bachelor's and master's degree from UW Superior, graduating from both schools with high honors. For many years Lydia volunteered to work with Relay for Life, a cancer fundraiser, where she helped raise over a million dollars to go for cancer research. Lydia traveled to Washington DC twice to lobby for cancer research funding.
