Obituary

Mabel M. Larson, 89, of Superior, Wis. died Thurs., June 24, 2010 in St. Mary's Hospice in Duluth, Minn.

Mabel was born March 7, 1921 in Superior to Olga and Joseph Baert, and remained a lifelong resident. She graduated from Central High School in 1939.

She had worked at Berthiaume's Grocery and Department store during WWII and then worked at the Parkland Health Facility in the kitchen for many years.

Mabel loved playing cards, especially 500 and Smear, with Susan, Shirley and Joyce. She was an excellent cook and she lived to make her friends happy.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Mattson; a son, Scott Larson both of Superior; her grandchildren, Jolissa, Dane, Christopher, Annalise and Annika; two cousins, Shirley Martin of South Range, Wis. and Joyce Larson of Superior; her close friend, Mary "Ruth" Ely; and her dogs Ila and Pepe.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Leonard and a brother, Raymond Baert.

Her funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., with Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her five grandchildren and a cousin, Randy Martin.
